Fundrasier: Can collection
Fundraising! We are a small team of 3 directors and one or two volunteers, which has its pros and cons. Pros are that we all get along and there is no internal fighting like in large organizations. Cons: There are only 3 of us, so task lists are long. That means we don't get to do as much fundraising as we would like.
Knowing that we can't do as many fundraisers right now as we would like, we do ongoing ones that are not labour-intensive and focus on large ones 2 or 3 times a year.
One of our ongoing fundraisers is a can collection, which includes pop cans. The can collection is a relatively easy fundraiser to run. How it works is people message or email when they have cans that need to be picked up. We have to sort, crush and count them.
Pop cans go to a local scrap place, and beer cans go to The Beer Store.
Yes, this type of fundraiser does not raise a lot of funds all at once, but over time, it brings in funds that help support the services our program offers.
Plus, it's one that we can have our kids help with; they can sort cans and crush them. As one of our board members said at the last board meeting, we can set them up on the ground and pretend we are Godzilla crushing buildings and who wouldn't have fun with that?
