Closing the overflow

CLOSE the overflow! screams the neighbours. Certain council members back and agree with them.

Don't allow them to set up an encampment in one of the city's mostly unused parks.

Ban all encampments and tents. Scream some community members and certain council members, and back them. 

Destroy tents, fine and charge them for not living in overcrowded, unsafe, pet-free, or drug-free shelters. 

Police obey, city enforcement agrees, council agrees... they create a ratline dressed as a helpline! 

Get them out of the doorways, off my lawn, and stop them from open use of drugs. Police obey, council agrees, city happily enforces. 

So now what? Where shall those go that have nowhere?

You don't want them on your lawns, in the doorways, in the parks, in the open, but you don't want the shelters, you don't want supportive housing built, and you don't want low-income housing built.

So your options are encampments or build supportive housing. That's it. It's that simple.
